I am pleased to announce that after half term we will be visiting Stafford Brook at Seaton Marshes on Tuesday June 19th. As a part of our Rivers topic it will be a great opportunity to do some great scientific and geographical fieldwork, as well as a great day out for the children.
I visited the Education Centre at the marshlands on Friday evening and was very impressed by the facilities that are available to us. I plan for the trip to take place within the usual timings of the school day to minimise any inconvenience. If you would like to take a look prior to our visit you can access the area from the car park that is through Seaton Cemetery. I can’t recommend it highly enough. Further details are to follow closer to the date.
I hope you have all received your invitation to our class art exhibition which will take place from 3:30pm until 4:15pm in Class C on Tuesday 15th May.
Mrs Hathway has been leading a sequence of lessons based around Movement. I wanted to use the fantastic work the children were doing putting together a gymnastic performance as well as our topic about the Human Body as a basis for an art project that would culminate in sculptures.
The children have also looked at the work of classic artists like Degas and contemporary artists like Gavin Mayhew to help inspire them with their project.
Please come and join us on Tuesday after school to view the children’s work and watch the film of their incredible gymnastics performance.
At Colyton Primary School we are proud of having an inclusive atmosphere where all feel welcome and able to thrive. With this in mind the children and I have started to learn Makaton. Makaton is the forerunner to British Sign Language and is a great way to help people who have communication difficulties. We sometimes play Hangman or Secret Messages using our knowledge of the Makaton Alphabet. The children are getting really good. See if your child can teach you!
In literacy we have been looking at the works of Walter De La Mere. Our overall learning objective has been to show our brilliant imaginations by selecting great language. We have been looking at poetic techniques like alliteration, simile and using figurative language to develop images for the reader. We are currently completing our own Walter De La Mere inspired pieces using the title “The Lost Garden”.
We reads the poem The Listeners and used musical instruments to add the spooky atmosphere we created.
